This Sphagnum Lotion skincare product is specially prepared by Developing the Self Developing the World to support wellbeing and sensory harmony in babies, children and adults. It complements the care and protection that a caregiver provides to their child for the development of the senses. The formula has been thought through so as to nourish and bring harmony to all ages and those with sensitive skin. 100% of profits go towards the Y Project, a section of Developing the Self Developing the World that is accessible to young adults from 16 years old and provides mentors, health services, artistic programs and events that are fully or partially funded.
Ingredients: Sphagnum Aqua, Olive Oil, Rose Extract, Cupuacu Butter, Olivem 900, Beeswax
Rose Sphagnum Protective Skin Lotion is free of alcohol and other preservatives; it is best used within 3 months of opening. The living nature of the ingredients are affected by environmental changes. It is recommended that the lotion be stored at a moderate temperature as the contents can solidify in temperatures below 20℃ and separate in temperatures above 30℃. Shake the bottle well to combine the lotion before application.
Sphagnum Protective Skin Lotion is intended for short, regular massage application to the limbs and torso to:
- develop healthy body awareness
- create a buffer for the bodies defence system
- increase the capacity to filter the many impressions that come towards us throughout the day
- draw attention to the distinction between self and other
- give an extra ‘skin’ or ‘protective cloak’ to hyper-sensitive children and adults
- increase awareness of boundary and personal space of self and other in hypo-sensitive children and adults
It can be used all over the body or just on parts before heading off to school, at bedtime or during challenging moments in the day when a child is demonstrating the need to reduce the impact the world is having on them or greater self awareness of their impact on the world.
The rose in particular has an affinity with the heart and the principle of wholeness. This guides its use in regaining and maintaining harmony in the body and mind. Compared with other plant extracts which have a calming or stimulating effect, the harmony of the rose represents balance and envelops one in an experience of wholeness. In anthroposophy the way we guide children under 7 years old towards developing a healthy sense of self is by providing them what is whole. It is a form of preventative healthcare. Other plant extracts are used by anthroposophic prescribers in specific cases for children under 7 years old but more so for anyone who is older.
Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) indicated the use of sphagnum moss as a protection from environmental influences and the stimulation of everyday life. The pristine water that preserves life under the moss is carefully hand harvested and combined with organically sourced ingredients and then prepared by hand in small batches. Applied to the skin, it acts as an extra layer to protect the vital forces required for growth and wellbeing.
Shake the bottle well to ensure the lotion is well combined. Dispense the lotion on the palm of your hand and let it become warm before applying it. The way it is best applied is a strokes down the torso and up the limbs all the way to the heart. Applying the touch in this direction can help circulation and attention move towards the heart, the centre of one’s being. Rather than rubbing the lotion in, it is stroked with a gentle massage-like touch. It can be most useful to those who are new to this technique of care, to use the lotion for yourself before applying it to children. Children can become familiar with and benefit from the rose aroma and the reverent space that is created for the application.
